FCP Playback Meter - Final Cut Pro
FCP Playback Meter - Final Cut Pro
Solution
Scope:
There is a hidden feature in FCP that enables a useful Playback Meter to show the playback cache condition. The meter shows the trend of cache usage and can be used to determine the health condition related to data rate flow from disk to FCP.
Conditions:
During playback, if the cache meter shows a depleting (emptying) trend, it will turn yellow and then red and then a dropped frames will occure. If the cache meter stays steady and hovers about the same spot, then the cache is doing good, indicating data is flowing through the system in a good rate.
This is a Playback Meter and Record Meter, so this meter has no affect during recording.
How to turn on the Playback Meter:
In FCP, hold down the lower left corner four keys:
Shift + Control + Option + Apple
and click Tools > Internal Tools > Playback Meter.
