Restoration Robotics Case Study
During the initial research and development stages of their revolutionary robotic hair restoration product, Restoration Robotics came across a substantial dilemma while building their embedded computer system. Restoration Robotics began to find it difficult to manage the designing and manufacturing of their embedded computer system that sustains their robot technology. Sourcing, building and testing the embedded computer system became a risk and a liability for the company.
Bob Roy, Senior Director of Product Development explains, "Hardware, especially graphic cards, are very difficult to keep up with. Hardware manufacturers are constantly changing and growing their own product lines. Managing an embedded computer system becomes a hassle, because you constantly have to re-design your product".
Focusing on their company’s strongest asset, their innovative software that controls their robotic product, was what Restoration Robotics choose to allocate their time and resources to. By teaming with MCE and outsourcing the design and manufacturing of their embedded computer systems, Restoration Robotics was able to reduce their product risk by turning over the responsibility to MCE.
Given the client’s basic requirements, MCE researched and developed the ideal solution for Restoration Robotics. Going above and beyond, MCE developed an entirely custom sized chassis to fit within Restoration Robotic’s product size specifications, this meant rendering completely unique hardware pieces for the company.
The final product manufactured resulted in a more compact higher performing machine that met every requirement Restoration Robotics was looking for.
